The hotly anticipated documentary, "The September Issue," comes out August 28th and you should be very, very excited regardless of whether or not you have anything to do with fashion. If you do, you'll love it even more so. It chronicles the months leading up to the publication of the September 2007 issue of Vogue and chiefly exposes the 20 year old relationship between Anna Wintour and Grace Coddington (love her!). The movie was great for a jolt of re-inspiration and should be a rejuvenation perfectly timed with fashion week.
I was lucky enough to attend a screening with the director, R.J. Cutler, who answered questions about his award-winning film that was first presented at Sundance. Claiming to have no pre-
conceived notions about Vogue and the fashion industry (he does
acknowledge that he knew Anna Wintour's name), he pinpoints the complexities of the relationships between editors, the genius of the Editor in Chief, and the impact she has on fashion and the world. (A bit dramatic, but it's true!!)
My favorite part? When her daughter Bea Schaffer proclaims that she wants to go to law school and have nothing to do with fashion because it's frivolous. I died.
"The September Issue," coming soon to NY and LA!
