Live for “The Best Thing I Ever Ate” on Food Network – and cheered out loud when Bobby Flay declared Balthazar french fries the “Best Fried Thing I Ever Ate” because ALL New Yorkers and people with tastebuds in general know this to be true. Good thing you can get those fries at any of the McNally restaurants, most favorably my go-to Schiller’s.

So what are The Best Things I Ever Ate?
BURGER:
Shake Shack, duh. Second place is Five Guys – both have amazing ratios of cheese-to-burger and fresh accoutrements to make the burger out of this world.
PIZZA:
Lombardi’s “tiny pepperonis” pizza. The fresh mozzarella and the tiny pepperonis make the pizza and the tomato sauce is so fresh it distracts from the fact that it is tomato sauce (the enemy).
SALAD:
Mediterranean flat bread salad at Fetch. Great flavor in the flatbread served with greek salad stuff on top.
BREAKFAST FOOD:
Pancakes at Clinton St Baking Company. Like actual cakes.
ICE CREAM:
with milk: Stracciatella at Ferrara’s. sorbet style: Green Apple’s pineapple and watermelon sorbets mixed.
COMFORT FOOD:
Macaroni and Cheese with Bacon at Westville. Ok, anything from Westville – made with fresh, real ingredients. No low-fat creams here.
SANDWICH:
Custom ham and cheddar on brioche at Tiny’s Sandwich Shop. Everything is uniform on the sandwich – pickles, lettuce, mayo, mustard, onions, cheese and ham all the same size – for a perfect bite every bite.
THING WITH CHEESE:
Quesadilla simple at La Esquina will BLOW YOUR MIND. Two types of Mexican cheese and sparingly used vegetables between two crisp, buttery tortillas and an avacado cream sauce.
