Spotlight On: Boscia Skin Care

So while at the Birchbox Pit Stop over last Fashion Week (another huge thank you to the girls at ABPR!) I discovered Boscia Skincare. The really sweet girl handing out the green tea blotters told me how amazing the products were, and I went to Sephora to check them out. I am most definitely a convert and addict now! I had Sarah Haynes Heath of Boscia sit down and answer some questions about this amazing skincare line. Enjoy!

Hi Sarah! You know I loooove Boscia. We've had so many long email conversations about it's benefits so thanks for doing this! How is Boscia different from other sensitive skin care lines?

Fancl, the parent company of boscia, was founded by a Japanese man named Mr Kenji Ikemori in the 1970s whose wife was experiencing some pretty serious skin reactions that no one could explain. He started researching on his own what the possible cause could be and ended up discovering that it was the preservatives found in skincare. There are 150 + industry-recognized preservatives. He removed all of them from the products he subsequently created, not just Parabens and the well-known ones, and her skin cleared immediately. He also made sure to use only ingredients that were heavily researched and safe for any skin type, especially sensitive types. Fancl is currently the largest skincare company in Asia. boscia was created for the USA in 2002. The name Fancl did not resonate with the English-speaking population, but the products all benefit from the amazing Japanese technology and years and years of research that is done on all the product coming from our labs over there.

What are your most popular products?

We are very well known for our BB Cream, as we were the first to introduce it to the US market, as well as our amazing Luminizing Black Mask, but many of our basic items such as Purifying Cleansing Gel and our Blotting Linens have very impressive followings. Our Purifying Cleansing Gel is so incredible because it is soap-free and still produces this wonderful lather that many people really want to see in a cleanser. And our Blotting Linens are not only adorable, but they are made with 100% natural Abaca Tree Leaf rather than paper. Very good for absorbing oil and blotting makeup too!

How can Boscia help people with extremely sensitive skin?

Our products are ideal for sensitive skin. It's in our DNA. Preservatives can cause the very irritations you are using a product to soothe. Take them out and add in the great ingredients that we have and you can work on the other skin concerns people have such as anti-aging, rather than only being able to focus on an irritation like acne or rosacea. The testimonials we receive from people whose skin our products have completely changed is really something you have to see to believe. I always think we

should publish some, but I think people who were new to the brand may think we are making it up.

** MY FAVORITE PRODUCT EVER!!!**

Explain the black collection - it looks so creepy going on! But it's amazing!

Our Black Line is really quite revolutionary. We use charcoal in some of the products, such as the Revitalizing Black Hydration Gel, which has potent detoxifying properties to absorb excess oil and impurities from the skin, in addition to the exfoliating properties, which refine skin texture. Our Black Mask contains Calcium Montmorillonite Clay: a premier clay from Montmorillion, France, that contains 67 minerals that absorb excess oil, dirt and toxins from the skin, exfoliates dead skin cells and leaves skin purified, nourished, restored and immaculate. All of the Black products are great for acne prone skin, oily skin and are quite nice for men. The response has been amazing. Our Pore Strips are like a science project! They work so well and it does provide a nice little thrill to see all of the "goop" they can extract.
Any plans for more makeup in the future? Love the BB cream.

No plans for more makeup at this time, but we have some nice BB Cream line extensions coming out, so stay tuned for that!

Best skincare advice?

Avoid preservatives! And cleanse well (we love the Clarisonic!).

Favorite fall beauty trend?

Color is fun to play with for those of us who work in the skincare world. I am loving all the bright lipstick shades right now. And the whole nail resurgence last spring was fun too! I say keep it going.

Thanks Sarah! xo
